Hafsa’s father is a laborer earning PKR 15,000 per month. It had always been tough for him to run the expenses of his family with eight members. After doing Bachelors, Hafsa started searching for opportunities to earn some income so she could share her father’s burden. Due to certain cultural barriers, it was difficult for Hafsa to go out and find employment, she therefore started looking for an opportunity that would help her earn while staying at home.
Hafsa saw the realization of her dream when PPAF launched the Citi Foundation funded Revitalizing Youth Entrepreneurship Project to provide income generating opportunities to a group of selected youth in the low-income areas of Killa Saifullah and Ziarat in Balochistan. Under the project 300 youth were provided skills trainings to set up small enterprises and earn sustainable livelihoods.
After receiving information and followed briefing on the objectives, various disciplines and nature of facilitations being provided under the entrepreneurship development initiative for the youth, Hafsa chose training on bedclothing for herself since there was a great demand for hand-made bed sets in the local market.
Hafsa termed the training quite useful and although she had no prior experience of knitting & clothe designing etc., she proved to be a quick learner.
While commenting on her decision to avail this opportunity to seek training, Hafsa said that "I had no other skill, but the training enabled me to support my family.
"I am able to earn now while working at my own home and helping my father in managing the expenses of family," Hafsa, said with a sense of pride in her tone and added further that by sewing 3 to 4 bedclothes, on average she earns PKR 10,000 to 12,000/month.
